Epithalon originated in late Soviet/Russian aging research as a synthetic tetrapeptide derived from studies of epithalamin, a pineal gland peptide extract investigated for geroprotective effects. Its profile rose in the early 2000s through work from Vladimir Khavinson’s group, especially reports that it could influence pineal neuroendocrine function and, in 2003, activate telomerase and promote telomere elongation in human somatic cells. That finding turned Epithalon into a prominent experimental anti-aging peptide, though its evidence base remained concentrated in a small body of largely preclinical research.
